2012 Works in Progress

Amy Lowell, youngest daughter of the wealthy and prominent Massachusetts textile and banking family, published her first book of poems in 1912. It was not a success. Nonetheless, this powerful and passionate woman had found her purpose and vision that year.  She continued to write and to publish for the next 13 years and eventually received the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry.  In addition to her own writing, she was a persuasive and untiring promoter of the “new movement” in American poetry. She travelled widely across the nation educating people about the works of Edwin Arlington Robinson, Robert Frost, Edgar Lee Masters, Carl Sandburg, and others.

In this performance, adapted from Lowell’s own work, you can witness this unique American woman, as she rehearses for our “input” her remarks for an upcoming lecture tour across the United States.

J-Powers has adapted and directed this work for the stage.
