This work portrays portions of the 36 days of hearings when anti-communist crusader Sen. Joseph McCarthy dueled with attorneys representing the U.S. Army over convoluted charges of favoritism and subversive infiltration of the military ranks. Broadcast over live television, the hearings galvanized the American people who watched as the senator’s hot character and ill-mannered interruptions wilted under the glare of a cool medium. |
